Micro-Sphere is active in proposing to customers the development of formulations either on already known products or ex-novo development in order to deliver a new proprietary formulation. Lipid-based formulations are a key knowledge of the company (see lipo-technology section). Moreover the company has also the capability to develop and test formulations of dry powders for inhalation. The close collaboration with Micro-Macinazione SA allows to produce micronized API powder which combined with Micro-Sphere lactose for inhalation Lacto-Sphere^® are the key components for a formulation to be inhaled.
In addition the presence in the company of a spray drying equipment is an other tool to produce powder to be inhaled. Of particular interest is the possibility to have correct ratios between excipients and API since both components are in solution before drying. Powder can be tested by vertical or horizontal type of impactor.
