Micro-Sphere SA is a company dedicated to the contract development of liquid and dry micro-encapsulated formulations of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Micro-Sphere offers the technology of fluid bed using the Hüttlin machines, recently updated by Disk Jet technology. A laboratory scale machine Hüttlin Unilab-5-DJ is used to develop new or modified generic formulations in the field of micro-encapsulation (enteric coating, pH dependent release, extended release). The scale-up to the pilot machine is performed on Hüttlin HKC-50-DJ with a batch size up to 45 kg, an optimal quantity for clinical trials or small productions. In case of molecules which are sensitive to oxygen or if the presence of organic solvents is necessary, the machines can be operated under nitrogen. Nitrogen is also used in order to reduce in very effective manner the residual humidity content of granulated or micro-encapsulated bed at the end of the batch. Charging and discharging of the bed is actuated pneumatically in a closed system. Both machines are placed in pharmaceutical boxes in class D (100'000).
